Bacchus statue in Italian Garden
A statue of Bacchus has been restored to its original position in the Italian Garden at the Codman Estate.

On August 6 Historic New England Gardener Ellen Mackey, led a group of seventeen members through the Codman Estate garden and landscape to discuss restoration projects made possible by the Preservation Maintenance Fund. Improvements have taken place on the main drive allée, ha-ha wall, Italian garden, reflecting pool, terraces, the part of the lawn referred to as the "Octagon," and Dorothy Codman's early twentieth-century garden.

On August 9, Senior Curator Nancy Carlisle presented a tour of the Codman family collections, which include furniture, paintings, and decorative arts from a wide range of periods collected by oftentimes eccentric family members. The tour highlighted the collection and conservation team's recent efforts in the conservation of several Codman family pieces.

Both programs were part of Members' Week, a series of special programs offered free to our members.
