Loon rescued at Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm

January 4, 2011

Loon at SPL

The staff at the Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm had an unexpected guest for Christmas: a young common loon. Neighbors and Historic New England Preservation Manager Mickey Karpa spotted the injured bird by the side of the road, and transported it back to the farm where Site Manager Bethany Groff worked with nearby Mass Audubon Joppa Flats Education Center and wildlife rehabilitator David Taylor to bring the bird to Tufts Veterinary School for evaluation and treatment. The bird is expected to make a full recovery.
