Lilacs at their best at Langdon House
May 29, 2011
Now that the sun is shining, it's a perfect time to enjoy the beautiful gardens of the Gov. John Langdon House. Thought to be one of the "best kept secrets" in Portsmouth, the garden is only two short blocks away from the center of Portsmouth's Market Square. The large, abundant lilacs have started to show their best, in shades of white, pale lavender, and deep purple. Soon, the other perennials will be in full swing too, with peonies, dwarf irises, and roses gearing up for a great springtime show.
Visitors can stop in every day from dawn to dusk for a quiet stroll, a picnic on the lawn, or just a few moments in the fragrant and colorful garden. The house opens for tours this year on June 3.
