This week, staff from Historic New England and the Smithsonian Institution installed the exhibition The Way We Worked at Governor John Langdon House in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

The Way We Worked Installation

The Way We Worked, which uses photographs from the National Archives and Records Administration to explore the changing nature of work in America over the past 150 years, officially opens Saturday, September 1, with a sneak preview Friday, August 31. At the exhibit, visitors can record their own work histories and upload them to the web, where they will be archived as part of the Smithsonian's Stories from Main Street.

Historic New England is partnering with the Smithsonian's Museum on Main Street initiative to bring the exhibition to every state in New England.
