Jewett House to undergo energy audit

Jewett House and Jewett-Eastman House

The Sarah Orne Jewett House Museum and Visitor Center in South Berwick, Maine, will undergo an energy assessment and audit thanks to a grant from the Maine Development Foundation and its "Grants to Green Maine" program.

Historic New England secured a $2,000 grant to identify energy efficiency improvements at Jewett-Eastman House, which serves as a year-round visitor center adjacent to Sarah Orne Jewett House Museum in the center of South Berwick. The "Grants to Green Maine" program provides environmentally focused knowledge and funding to strengthen nonprofits located in historic buildings in downtowns in Maine.

“Grants to Green Maine” is a partnership between the Maine Development Foundation’s Maine Downtown Center, Efficiency Maine, and the Maine Community Foundation and is funded by Kendeda Fund of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta.

Historic New England believes that environmental sustainability and historic preservation go hand in hand. Learn more about energy efficiency projects at our historic sites.

Would love to perform for Sarah...Signed, Annie Fields

I visited the Jewett House this summer and was enthralled and inspired by the many stories told. The house itself seems to speak of Sarah and of her cherished companion Annie.

"Victorian Gossip Girl: Annie Fields" is a one-woman show chronicling the life of this oft-forgotten literary agent and philanthropist and it highlights the beautiful relationship shared by these two women. It would be an honor to perform this program for the Jewett House as a special event and I welcome you to contact me at to discuss the program. History At Play tours nationwide and will be taking one of its shows, "A Revolutoon of Her Own: Deborah Samson Gannett" Off-Broadway this year in the United Solo Theatre Festival.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope the Jewett House receives a stellar review!

Sincerely yours,
Judith Kalaora
