Craft & Modernity: Professional Women Artists in Boston (1890–1920) at the Boston University Stone Gallery features a number of archival images from Historic New England’s collection by photographers Mary Harrod Northend and Alice Austin.

The exhibition explores how events in Boston affected professional women artists at the turn of the century. In addition to Colonial Revival interior prints and images of ceramic decorators at work at Paul Revere Pottery, the exhibition also features Ethel Reed posters and ceramics decorated by Sara Galner.

Craft & Modernity: Professional Women Artists in Boston (1890–1920) is on display until December 19 at the Boston University Stone Gallery at 855 Commonwealth Avenue. The gallery is open Tuesday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The exhibition is free and open to the public. Learn more.
