Glass expert Kirk Nelson visits Beauport
May 11, 2015
Glass expert Kirk Nelson, president and CEO of the New Bedford Museum of Glass, recently visited Historic New England's Beauport, the Sleeper-McCann House, in Gloucester, Massachusetts, to refresh his memory about the glass collection there.
Kirk is scheduled to present two workshops at Beauport on Thursday, June 18. As you would expect, he found numerous treasures as he walked through the house, many of them intermingled with early twentieth-century reproductions.
Above, Kirk examines an American-made creamer of a particularly rare pattern, made around 1830. In typical Sleeper fashion, this important creamer is shelved adjacent to a blue glass toothpick holder in the shape of a top hat that was probably brand new when Sleeper purchased it in the 1920s.
To learn more about the history of glass in New England and Sleeper’s innovative use of glass in interior design, join us at Beauport on June 18.
