Glass bottles on view at Peterborough Historical Society

Historic New England has loaned three eighteenth-century glass bottles, normally on view at Barrett House in New Ipswich, New Hampshire, to the Peterborough Historical Society for the exhibition New Hampshire Glassmakers 1780-1886.

The bottles are attributed to New England Glass Works, one of the first glass factories in New Hampshire, founded in 1780 by Robert Hewes in the town of Temple. Because New England Glass Works folded by 1782 due to fire, Temple glass bottles are very rare.

New Hampshire Glassmakers 1780-1886 opens on November 13 and features glassware from a variety of early New Hampshire factories.
