Boxwood hedge at Lyman
Planting the boxwood hedge at the Lyman Estate gardens.

Historic New England landscape staff are looking for volunteers to help in the Lyman Estate and Codman Estate gardens and landscapes.

During Weeding Wednesdays at the Lyman Estate and Thorny Thursdays at the Codman Estate, volunteers work side by side with staff to care for and learn about these historic gardens and landscapes. It’s also a chance to share your knowledge and explore new areas.

Tasks include weeding, dividing plants, planting new material, removing invasive species, and other cleanup activities. Sessions run each week from 9:00 a.m. to noon, April through October. For volunteers interested in helping at the Lyman Estate, we start on Wednesday, April 3, and meet at the peach wall. For volunteers interested in helping at the Codman Estate, we start on Thursday, April 4, and meet in the Italian garden.

Get involved by calling 617-994-5900, ext. 6321.
