Participants in this year’s Program in New England Studies stopped by the Collections and Conservation Center on June 23 to attend a hands-on furniture workshop led by Brock Jobe, professor of decorative arts at the University of Delaware's Winterthur Program in Early American Culture. Using knowledge gained during lectures that morning, participants examined high chests, chairs, and tables from Historic New England’s collection.
They removed drawers and turned over objects in order to compare styles, construction techniques, and features. Curator Nancy Carlisle then led a tour highlighting ceramics and textiles in the collection.
