Carpenters repair barn door at Codman Estate
July 11, 2013
The elegant Codman Estate in Lincoln, Massachusetts, hosts numerous weddings every year. The estate's carriage barn, with its quoin corners, pediment window casing, and elaborate cornice detailing, provides a beautiful setting for receptions. A building that hosts such memorable events needs to be maintained in a condition both attractive and functional. A great deal of work has been done in the past few years to keep the carriage barn at its best.
Most recently, Historic New England's carpentry crew made substantial repairs to one of the barn's massive sliding doors. The work was done inside the barn itself during the winter months. While the weather made for less-than-luxurious working conditions, the timing allowed the project to be completed over several weeks in January and February, well in advance of the busy spring and summer wedding season.
The door was re-hung and adjusted before this year’s first wedding and should look good and function
well for years to come. Please consider supporting essential preservation work at Historic New England's thirty-six properties
with a gift to the Preservation Maintenance Fund.
