Cambridge Preservation Awards honor Historic New England member
June 18, 2013
On May 31, the Cambridge Historical Commission recognized the 2013 Cambridge Preservation Award winners for their outstanding contributions to the preservation of the city’s architectural heritage. Among the award recipients was Historic New England member Cathy Korsgren for her recent donation of a preservation easement on the Samuel Chadwick House to Historic New England’s Stewardship Easement Program.
The easement assures the perpetual protection of the c. 1853 house’s significant features, including exterior siding, doors, windows, entrance canopy, and interior framing members, plaster walls and ceilings, and woodwork. A dedicated steward of the house, Cathy has spent much of her ownership sensitively restoring features lost during early and mid-twentieth century remodeling projects.
Prior to donating the easement, the Chadwick House had no protection from alteration or demolition. It is not listed on the National Register of Historic places and is not included in a local historic district. Congratulations to Cathy on her award and for making such an important contribution to Cambridge’s architectural legacy.
