Otis Society members learn about Codman/Wharton friendship

October 6, 2011

Otis Society
Otis Society members and guests enjoyed a tour of the Codman Estate.

Otis Society members and guests visited the Codman Estate in Lincoln, Massachusetts, to learn about the friendship between House of Mirth author Edith Wharton and designer and architect Ogden Codman Jr.

Guide Camille Arbogast delivered A Creative Kinship, a lecture based on forty years of letters archived by Historic New England. Wharton and Codman co-authored The Decoration of Houses, a book that revolutionized American interior design in the late nineteenth century. As part of the program, guests toured the Codman family's country home.

The Otis Society honors individuals who have included Historic New England in their estate plans. Membership benefits include invitations to a variety of special programs. If you are interested in more information, or have already made a provision for Historic New England in your will or estate plan, please contact us at PlannedGiving@HistoricNewEngland.org or 617-994-5929.
