Girl Scouts help Barrett House garden grow
Throughout this year’s growing season, the New Ipswich, New Hampshire, Girl Scouts helped out at the Barrett House annual garden. The girls worked with Maureen Vaillancourt, owner of Mason Brook Nursery and Historic New England’s garden partner, to learn the basics of horticulture. Once they were comfortable with the fundamentals, the girls assisted Maureen with the planting and maintenance of the annual garden.
This year the garden featured flowers, such as
geraniums and rose campion, and vegetables, such as beans and squash. All vegetables harvested from the garden
were donated to the St. Vincent de Paul - Sacred Heart food pantry in nearby
Greenville, New Hampshire. To mark the end of the garden season at the
Barrett House, a group of the girls and their families toured the Barrett House
museum earlier this month.
Historic New England thanks the Girl Scouts of New Ipswich for their
dedication this season, and a job well done.
