How to preserve and maintain your historic house museum was the main focus of a presentation made by Benjamin Haavik, team leader of property care, to approximately 45 members of the New England Museum Association’s (NEMA) Curators Professional Affiliation Group on May 10, 2010. The presentation covered a range of topics including:

- How to approach basic preservation planning for the building
- What to look for when you inspect the interiors and exteriors
- Basic but important maintenance activities
- Relative Humidity (RH) and HVAC systems
- The value of building condition assessments
- How to prioritize the preservation projects
